Educational Technology Ideas and Examples from a Community of Practice

Administrators and teachers are often questioned about the integration of technology in the classroom. Parents and other community members want to know why and how technology is being used. Is increased student achievement the primary goal? Can technology integration promote student engagement? In this interactive presentation we will explore research-based ideas for technology integration by examining classroom examples from teacher-leaders in the Samis Technology Initiative (STI) community of practice.

David A. Wicks, EdD, is an Associate Professor and Chair of the MEd in Digital Education Leadership in the School of Education at Seattle Pacific University. Dr. Wicks has served within the educational technology community in numerous positions throughout his career including: high school technology teacher, university lecturer, school district technology facilitator, multimedia author and project manager for an educational technology company, and director of instructional technology for SPU. He was recently honored for his work as conference chair for the 2014 International Symposium for Emerging Technologies in Online Learning.
